Ok so yeah….

May 24th, 2006 by Porkfry

There was that whole “I’m going to update” thing but then I lost the link to the thing that makes it so I can update and I just got it back….so yeah when we last left our Hero I was doin stuff.

Ok so yeah…E3…

The #1 issue I had with E3 this year was nintendo. Normally the nintendo booth is a huge buzz of activity and people. Even if there were games I really didn’t care about the energy that would come from that booth was a place I’d go back to quite a few times during E3.

So this year Due to the “Wii” they decided it would be best to completely surround their booth with a large wall. There was a small area outside their booth that had a few DS games but that was it. All there was to see was a huge white wall and a line of people. On the first day due to me having a Media badge we were able to get in 2 hours before everyone else. So my thinking is that I’d check out the WoW expansion and then I’d hit up the Wii later on. This was before I knew about the wall…

So Doug and I were waiting outside the South hall (the one that WoW was in) and there was some bull shit about something that made it so they didn’t open the doors. So Doug and I went to the West hall (where the Wii) was to go and see what was up with that. The door was infact open to us and we started checking things out. Doug suggested we check out Nintendo…This was where we found out about the line. The doors could not have been open to the press for more than 10 minutes and the line was already all the way around their booth. This became a “Fuck that shit” moment.

I never ended up actually waiting in line to get inside. Mainly becuase every person I talked to said that it was a mad house once you got inside. That there was no real order to the place and the games you ended up playing were the ones others didn’t want to play. With all that we went and checked out Sony.

Sony was super underwhelming. A couple of their games looked ok, but honestly it wasn’t anything ground breaking. I mean the one game that looked remotely interesting was a God of war clone. Warhawk looked like Crimson Skies. I honestly don’t remember any of the other games there.

So with Nintendo pulling the isolationist thing and sony not really having anything good to look at the West hall was pretty much dead. All in all this made E3 feel much smaller for some reason.

On to the WoW expansion:

So with the West hall behind me I went to get some quality time with the WoW expansion. I was still in “Media” mode and was able to get a seat and I played for about a half an hour.

Ok so…normally at E3 there are people there who demo the games. At this point these would be Blizzard Employees. So there was this dude wearing a blizzard shirt with a blizzard name badge and I’m thinking…he’ll be able to answer questions for me…yeah ok dude didn’t know shit. I mean honestly, every question I asked the answer was “I don’t know”.

Issues I have with that:

1. If you have support staff there to demo your games…make sure they know what the hell they’re demoing
2. Have a better answer than “I don’t know” because dude, you work for the Fucking company! You should know…maybe you could even say “that’s classified”. See that I can respect…

Anywho…yeah so, their systems had newb characters started for the Blood Elves (male / female) and they had male Draenai. You could see a female draenai in their starter area but you couldn’t play as one.

Along with that they had a few level 62 characters with the tier 3 armor sets on so you could see them and they all started in the Outland. The outland was pretty cool looking. Pretty much dirt and rocks and large broken floating rocks.

There was no real content that I could find out there (quest wise) or any kind of hint of what the level 60 to 70 game was going to be like. My fear is that with the current direction “Tigole” is taking the game its going to be jam packed with grinding raid after grinding raid.

All I can tell you is this. I need to just go down there and become their end game designer. I’m not saying that I’d replace Tig…I’m saying that I’d like to add some things to the game that I think would really spice things up. Yeah me and millions of other people….but I’m going to get the job so I’ll keep you guys posted with all that.
